LEFT HAND EXERCISES
Consistent Pressure Exercise
This exercise trains the awareness of holding consistent and even pressure of the fingers of the left hand. Utilizing Precise Finger Placement begin with your fingers placed evenly on the G string making sure all fingers maintain the same amount of pressure.
Beginning with your index finger lift each finger in turn off of the string then return it to its fretted position while maintaining consistent pressure and on the remaining fingers. Do not move your fingers more than an inch away from the string during this exercise.
Focused Pressure Exercise
This exercise trains your awareness of focusing pressure on one finger while maintainging relaxation on the remaining fingers. Begin with your fingers placed evenly above but not touching the G string .
Beginning with your index finger place just one finger on the string while maintaining a relaxed ready position with the remaining fingers. Do not move either fretting finger or resting fingers more than an inch away from the string during this exercise.
Fingering Exercises
The following exercises will train the basic finger extension/flexing motions and help gain finger independence. You will move individual fingers from string to string while your other fingers remain stationary while holding even, constant pressure on the third string. Using Precise Finger Placement, press only as hard as you need to sound the note. Do not press too hard!
